San Rufino

San Rufino The most ancient records state this church existing since the XII century, but administratively submitted to the church of Santo Stefano in Lavagna. During the visit of Cardinal Durazzo ( archbishop of Genoa) in 1650, it is established as archiepiscopal church and controlling 6 minor churches in the surrounding area. The present design of this church is due to the substantial renovation made during the period 1675-1687, when the original Roman design was completely transformed and changed into the Baroque style. The title San Rufino remained for centuries as either the name of the church and the the name of its area, up to 1933 when the local authorities gave the new name of Leivi to the area. Inside the church some paintings, dating back the ‘ 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, have been remarkably restored in 2009
