San Lorenzo

San Lorenzo This church, once dedicated to San’t Ambrogio, is known as an ancient sacre premise, already mentioned in two important records of the XIV century, the Syndacatus in 1311 and the Lodo in 1387. According to Giacomo Rocca in the second half of the XIV century, this church was already submitted to the parish of San Rufino, as it is still now. Maybe because of its minor importance this church has never been entirely demolished, but only partially modified. It is remarkable to remember that it is placed just on an important cross way between the coast and the mountains and on its church-square were used to pass pilgrims directed to the Sanctuary of Montallegro or travellers moving from the valleys to the coast and viceversa, often carrying chestnuts for to be grinded at the water mill nearby. The church in fact is the reference point for the junction of the path which brings either to the Sanctuary of Montallegro and Maxena (Chiavari)
