San Terenziano

San Terenziano The church of Saints Terenziano and Desiderio Martyrs is still placed on Chiavari town area but submitted to San Rufino parish in Leivi and it can be found along the Rupinaro stream at the border with Leivi area. In 1750 the rector of Maxena Domenico Maria Vaccarezza notified Mons Saporiti in Chiavari “that one chapel in San Terenziano area had been built along the river close to the Solaro area but still belonging to Maxena area, and that it had been left for long in very bad condition due to a flood. Two priests from Leivi, who found it convenient for them, rebuilt the chapel in Solaro area, so it became a Leivi property”.
Inside the church today we can find only one noticeable clue belonging to its history, the date of 1667, carved in the white marble holy-water font, but the setting up of the church definitely dates back prior to 1625, date in which the visit of a local bishop is mentioned. Then, abandoned for a long time, it was still roofless in 1979 and water infiltrations kept damaging it. During the last restoration unfortunately the barrel vault was demolished, regardless the authorities’ instructions
